Regenerating Economies in the Web of Life – GenR featured in forum Nachhaltig Wirtschaften

We are proud to share that Generation Restoration e.V. is featured in the latest issue of forum Nachhaltig Wirtschaften – one of Germany’s leading magazines for sustainable economy and social innovation.

In our contribution titled “Regenerating Economies in the Web of Life”, we explore how regenerative approaches can transform refugee camps from places of crisis into spaces of resilience and renewal. Drawing from our experience in Uganda and beyond, we outline how grassroots-led initiatives are already regenerating soil, dignity, and opportunity – even in contexts of displacement and limited infrastructure.

Learning from each other: Paulinho Muzaliwa fled the DRC and now builds new perspectives for fellow refugees in Uganda through permaculture training and regenerative agriculture.

At the heart of our approach lies a simple but powerful idea: True regeneration is ecological, social, and economic – all at once.

We highlight:

    • Permaculture and agroecology as green livelihood pathways

    • Community-led value creation, from compost to biochar to natural products

    • Compost toilets and circular sanitation systems

    • Educational and leadership models that strengthen participation and agency

The article also reflects on the importance of shifting away from extractive logic – not just in how we treat land, but also people. Especially in humanitarian settings, regenerative solutions offer a systemic alternative to aid dependency and top-down planning.

We thank the editorial team of forum Nachhaltig Wirtschaften for amplifying voices working at the intersection of regeneration, equity, and transformation.

Let’s rethink economy—not as a system of extraction, but of restoration. Let’s regenerate the web of life. 🌱
