Online Roundtable May 2025
On May 2nd, 2025, Generation Restoration e.V. hosted an online roundtable with around 15 participants from diverse organizations to discuss one key question:
«How to align internally and externally in terms of sufficient internal capacity development for Regenerative Agriculture in Displacement Settings?»
Building on the outcomes of the last roundtable, which centered on seed production and impact assessment, this session focused on developing key strategies for alignment – both internally among refugee communities and externally with donors.
The session introduced the model going forward within the next few months: alignment, institutionalization and standardization (see chart below).

Haupt-Herausforderungen & Lösungen
The roundtable discussions further highlighted critical challenges and practical solutions to strengthen internal coordination and foster early donor involvement in regenerative initiatives for refugee camps.
🤝 Internal Alignment
Herausforderungen
- Limited understanding of regenerative agriculture among refugees.
- High expectations for short-term results.
- Lack of ownership and involvement from the start.
- Limited space for composting and organic fertilizer production.
Lösungen
- Establish demo sites to show before-and-after success stories.
- Use diverse communication tools (even platforms like TikTok) to reach different audiences.
- Create local learning centers to revive traditional sustainable farming knowledge.
- Organize farmer cooperatives for seed saving and knowledge exchange.
🌍 External Alignment
Herausforderungen
- Short-term funding cycles hinder long-term regenerative processes.
- Impact assessments often don’t reflect local realities.
Lösungen
- Develop community-specific, localized impact metrics.
- Involve donors from the start and treat them as long-term partners.
- Increase visibility through targeted outreach and communication.
- Include host communities to demonstrate wider social and regional benefits.
The diverse contributions during the roundtable offered important perspectives on advancing regenerative solutions in refugee settlements. Participants emphasized that while local communities are ready to lead change, scaling impact requires strong partnerships, practical capacity building, and sustained support from donors and networks. Together, these efforts lay the foundation for resilient and regenerative futures.
