Masoka Nutrition for Development (MANUD) is a refugee-led grassroots organization based in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Uganda. Founded by Fazil Buffol, MANUD is dedicated to tackling childhood malnutrition, promoting inclusive education, and supporting regenerative agriculture – especially for children, women, youth, and people with disabilities.

The vision: a resilient, empowered community, using local knowledge and sustainable practices to shape its own future.

MANUD takes a holistic, community-driven approach to improving lives in Nakivale – focusing on:

🌾 YESAN-CR: Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Agriculture, Nutrition & Climate Resilience

MANUD’s flagship initiative empowers youth, women, and people with disabilities through:

  • Seed Production & Conservation
    Training in seed selection, storage, and drought-resilient varieties
    Creation of community-managed seed banks

  • Permaculture & Regenerative Agriculture
    Agroforestry, composting, mulching, and water conservation techniques

  • Food Processing & Value Addition
    Training in drying, fermenting, and packaging for nutritious, marketable products

  • Nutrition Education & Outreach
    School gardens, maternal nutrition programs, and youth-led health campaigns

  • Inclusive Training & Adapted Agribusiness Models
    Agricultural programs designed for full participation of people with disabilities

  • Environmental Protection & Climate Action
    Tree planting, circular economy initiatives, and community-led climate adaptation

🥣 Food Processing Training

A core component of MANUD’s work: hands-on training in food transformation using local crops.

In 2024, 9 teen mothers and 3 young men gained skills in processing fortified porridge – including hygiene, shelf life extension, and marketing.

 The program includes:

  • Safe food handling

  • Fortified porridge production

  • Branding & market readiness

  • Mentorship for application & entrepreneurship

🌱 Climate-Resilient Agriculture & Permaculture

MANUD transforms small plots into productive food gardens through:

  • Sack and keyhole gardens

  • Shaded nurseries for seedlings

  • Agroecological practices for water retention and biodiversity

  • Compost-making & mixed cropping

These systems are simple, scalable, and suited for challenging conditions in refugee settlements.

🛟 Community Resilience & Crisis Preparedness

MANUD builds local capacity to respond to shocks through:

  • Youth- and women-led emergency response teams

  • Stockpiling food, seeds, tools, and first aid kits

  • Community radio, WhatsApp & SMS for emergency communication

  • Establishing Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs)

  • Emergency funds for health, crop failure, or other urgent needs

Inclusion at the Core

From accessible training spaces to adapted farming tools and inclusive business models – MANUD ensures that people with disabilities can fully participate in every part of community life and development.

A Trusted Partner of Generation Restoration

Since 2025, MANUD has partnered with Generation Restoration e.V. for fundraising support, visibility, and organizational development.

The formal registration process as a nonprofit organization was launched with GenR’s support – based on proven local impact and community trust.

Fazil Buffol – Founder & Visionary Leader

Born in 1994 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Fazil turned his lived experience of food insecurity and exclusion into a lifelong commitment to community empowerment.

As a social entrepreneur and permaculturist, his mission is clear:

“Real change begins with local knowledge, shared responsibility, and the will to build resilience together.”
